Due to increased enrollment at Roosevelt and planned changes to the Wellstone program to better meet the needs of students, the Wellstone program will move to the Wilder building, located at 3345 Chicago Ave. S., and will serve students aged 17-21 as of Aug. 15. Wellstone is returning to its original mission: a strong focus on the needs of older students and a commitment to building high-quality programming to accelerate students toward college and career. Older students will engage in rigorous academic content instruction designed to prepare them for college and career as well as accelerate their English language development. They will learn alongside peers of their same age through internships, community partnerships and postsecondary opportunities.

Current students aged 14-16 as of Aug. 15 will attend a new newcomer program at South High School or transition to their attendance area high school, depending on their level of English proficiency. Students will have more electives to choose from, more time with peers who speak English fluently and the opportunity to access all of the curricular and co-curricular offerings of a comprehensive high school. Students and families will receive individual support to determine the appropriate placement.
