Pedro
Student of the Month - Pedro N.
Monday, April 07, 2014 8:00 AM

Pedro demonstrates leadership as a role model for other students. His tenacity, drive, and grit lead him to inevitable success, as failure is not an option for him. He is keenly aware of his fellow students' academic struggles, as he is quick to offer help, whether to a neighbor sitting next to him, or even asking a teacher to volunteer in a classroom. He is on top on things and knows what he wants for his future. He is always willing to help other students with homework and is a role model.

He is one of the most respectful students we have ever had here at Wellstone, both past and present. He is always here, on time, prepared, engaged, respectful and nice. … a true professional. When I think of a leader at this school, I think of Pedro. Despite his mere 16 years of age, he is mature and focused.

VISTA Position Opening for Next Year - Apply Now
Tuesday, March 25, 2014 1:10 PM

Are you interested in joining Wellstone International High School as a VISTA member?

See Below!

Wellstone International High School provides innovative English and content instruction for immigrant students ages 14 to 21. Because many of our students come to high school with limited formal education, we have developed a new literacy program to address their needs by offering reading intervention classes to about 200 students. The VISTA will research best practices for literacy instruction for these unique students in order to build a portfolio of strategies. Following an action research model, the VISTA will develop and pilot targeted, small group literacy instruction strategies. The VISTA would learn to assess students' literacy levels and needs at various times throughout the year, to track reading growth and success of interventions. By the end of the year, the VISTA will have developed a literacy tool kit that can be used in the future at Wellstone, as well as other similar sites. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in the field of education and teaching. Proficiency in another language is helpful, but not required. Applications accepted on a rolling basis through May 30th, with a priority deadline of April 18th.

If you are interested, click here.

Please note this is NOT a Minneapolis Public School position.  This position is through Americorps.
