During the last quarter of the year, Mr. Daniel's class will be engaged in a Problem Based Learning project.
Our process is supported by World Savvy’s Classroom Communities and will address this year’s theme, “Population and Progress.” Student volunteers from the Minneapolis College of Arts and Design, St. Thomas University, and Cretin-Derham Hall High School also support our Wellstone students.
The pedagogical framework that drives this unit is inspired by the Brazilian teacher, Paulo Freire’s, cornerstone affirmation that: the goal of problem-posing education is praxis, which is “reflection and action upon the world in order to transform it” (Freire, Pedagogy of the Oppressed - 1970/1990, p. 33).
Stop the Hate - Spread the HOPE !
As a class we have identified a PROBLEM that impacts each of us as we strive to begin a new life in the United States.
The Problem = We are experiencing the effects of increased hateful discriminatory language and behavior against immigrants coming to the United States. Hateful remarks being made by some presidential candidates are fueling a toxic environment perpetuated by millions of these candidates’ supporters, specifically targeting immigrants who are Muslim and from Latin America.
