PICNIC! May 31, 2012
Our Mission: Empowering Female Students through Bicycling
in Minneapolis' Diverse Urban Neighborhoods.

Through the Wellstone Bike Club, scores of young adult women have learned how to ride a bicycle for the first time.  All bike club members are New Americans, primarily from East Africa.  Every spring and fall they take to the trails, enjoying Minneapolis' urban beauty on two wheels!  Bike Club is led by ELL teacher and bicycle enthusiast Heather McKerrow.

Donate your used bike!

Due to a change in staffing we are unable to accept bikes for Wellstone Bike Club anymore.  However, if you have a bike gathering dust in the garage, we encourage you to donate it to the Pleasant Avenue Alley Bike Club which works with low income youth in South Minneapolis to fix bicycles and gain valuable life skills.  If you have a bike you’d like to donate call Jeff at 612-205-8828 or e-mail jcarl001@mpls.k12.mn.us.  For more information on the Alley Bike Club: http://mplsbikeworks.blogspot.com/ ,

Bike/Walk to School Day 2010

On October 6, 2010, Wellstone and Roosevelt celebrated walking and bicycling at a before school event.   Over 60 students and staff either walked, took transit, or rode their bicycles to school.  They were greeted with a festive booth staffed by student volunteers.  Everyone enjoyed donuts, coffee, and a chance to "spin the bike wheel" for prizes like helmets, lights, locks, and water bottles.  This kind of event is easy and fun to organize.  If you would like to organize one at your school, please check out the Minneapolis Bike Ambassadors website:

Track the growth of bicycling here at Wellstone/Roosevelt. This is a model we hope other schools can emulate. Wouldn't it be great if there were a Twin Cities Bike to School League wherein schools would compete for "Bike to School" champion?
