Wellstone Bike Club

Our Mission: Empowering Students through Bicycling
in Minneapolis' Diverse Urban Neighborhoods.

Through the Wellstone Bike Club, students learn to ride for the first time, discover how to tune up their own bike, and to savor the joy of exploring Minneapolis on two wheels.   We maintain a fully equipped shop to restore bicycles for donation or sale at rock-bottom price.   We have distributed hundreds of bikes in this way over the last 6 years.   We host an annual Walk and Bike to School Event.  We specialize in empowering East African women to bicycle.

Donate your used bike!

Do you have a bike gathering dust in the garage?

Donate it to Wellstone Bike Club!    Quality bikes in good working condition are always preferred.  We accept bikes at Wellstone/Roosevelt from 1-4 on school days.  On weekends and evenings and some mornings we have a drop off location in the Whittier neighborhood (near Uptown).  If you have a bike you’d like to donate call Jeff at 612-668-5075 or e-mail jcarl001@mpls.k12.mn.us

Bike/Walk to School Day 2010

On October 6, 2010, Wellstone and Roosevelt celebrated walking and bicycling at a before school event.   Over 60 students and staff either walked, took transit, or rode their bicycles to school.  They were greeted with a festive booth staffed by student volunteers.  Everyone enjoyed donuts, coffee, and a chance to "spin the bike wheel" for prizes like helmets, lights, locks, and water bottles.  This kind of event is easy and fun to organize.  If you would like to organize one at your school, please check out the Minneapolis Bike Ambassadors website:

Track the growth of bicycling here at Wellstone/Roosevelt. This is a model we hope other schools can emulate. Wouldn't it be great if there were a Twin Cities Bike to School League wherein schools would compete for "Bike to School" champion?
