Celebrate Welcoming Week

Wellstone joined with the city of Minneapolis and WelcomingAmerica.org to bring together immigrants, refugees and native born residents to celebrate the rich diversity and stand up for immigrants in our community. Tuesday, September 19th there was an event at the Brian Colyle Center and Thursday, September 21st there was an event in Powderhorn Park.Please see the link for pictures. Weaving in Ms. Linda's Art Classroom

Tutoring Starts

Starting Tuesday, September 5th, after school tutoring will begin in the Wellstone Media Center. Tutors will be available from 3:00 until 5:00 for help across the disciplines from Monday through Thursday. On Fridays there will be language circles to practice English. Stop by for some help or if you need computer access. We look forward to seeing you in the Media Center.

Fort Snelling Trip

On Wednesday, August 30th,  seniors went on a community building field trip to Fort Snelling. They spent the day getting to know each other and engaging in challenging and fun activities all in the great outdoors. It is going to be a great year at Wellstone!

Mission

Wellstone International High School (WIHS) provides an equitable education for English Learners (ELs) by meeting academic and social-emotional needs. WIHS builds on the assets and experiences of ELs’ multilingualism and multiculturalism. Students are expected to critically analyze and respond to local and global issues while enhancing awareness of self and others. Academic standards, research-based support systems and experiential learning come together to produce a rich academic setting. Advanced coursework includes college courses and opportunities for students to prepare for post-secondary options.  WIHS utilizes and promotes collaboration and community engagement through enhanced community partnerships.

Wellstone is a Celebration-Eligible School!

The purpose of the Celebration School recognition is to identify Minnesota Title I schools that have demonstrated both excellence on the MMR which measures school performance in the areas of student proficiency, student growth, closure of the achievement gap, and graduation rates as well as success with initiatives that have led to positive student outcomes.

This year Wellstone International High School has been designated a focus school under the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). The designation is based on student performance data that placed our school among the ten percent of schools making the largest contribution to the state’s achievement gap.
