Winter Break Activities

Winter break will start December 20th. School will resume on Monday, January 5th. Public libraries will remain open for most of winter break. Besides books to check out they have free access to computers. Here is a link to some fun websites that you can use on your phone or computer over break.

You may also want to participate in a winter break scavenger hunt! Take a selfie in front of as many of these places as you can and put them on a Google Doc shared with Mr. Bob (bob.peterson@mpls.k12.mn.us) with the title: Scavenger Hunt by 5 PM January 5th to be eligible.  Here is the link to the sites to visit.

Culture Day
Oromo Cultural Gathering

On Tuesday, December 16th, the Oromo Club put on a wonderful Culture Day: Building Community Around Our School. The show displayed clothes, dances, informational talks, and foods from student cultures that represent Wellstone IHS. It was a great evening for all who attended. Special thanks to all the students in the Oromo Club and Mr. Abdi Jibril for planning and putting on this event.

Poetry Out Loud

Ten students recited their poems in the auditorium in an all school assembly on Dec. 17th as a part of the Poetry Outloud competition. Each student had the opportunity to read two poems. Several judges rated each poem and totalled up the points. The judges selected the following winners, Axel V., Fatumo I. and Abdikarim I. All students who participated are to be congratulated for stepping up and giving it their best.

Jamilo has been selected at Wellstone IHS November student of the month!

Jamilo's nominator said: "Jamilo N. has shown so much maturity and responsibility.  Her English has grown so much, she has never missed a class at MCTC, she has worked very hard to apply for scholarships.  She's always turned in homework on time or ahead of schedule.  She's been a terrific role model to other students."

Poetry OutLoud

Students across Wellstone IHS are participating in Poetry Outloud. They have chosen a favorite poem, committed it to memory and are reciting it to their classmates. A student will be selected from each class to recite their poem on December 17th in the auditorium.
