Message from the principal.

 

Vision
Wellstone International High School provides innovative English and content instruction for students ages 14 to 21. A Wellstone education empowers students to fully participate in society and prepares them for post-secondary education.
 
Mission
Wellstone International High School provides educational opportunities to High School English Language Learners by supporting high academic achievement in an accredited high school setting and by working in partnership with local colleges.
 
 
Curriculum
We offer accelerated English language development and an accredited high school curriculum. We partner with local colleges to enable many of our advanced students to take classes at MCTC and the University of Minnesota while they are still in high school.
 
In addition to English classes, our curriculum includes: Environmental Science, Physical Science, Biology, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Government, Economics, Minnesota History, U.S. History, World History, American Literature, World Literature, Advanced Writing, Media and Careers, and Media Arts.
 
Languages
All languages are welcomed. 

Many of the staff at Wellstone are fluent in more than one language and many speak a language of the students they serve. Bilingual associate educators speak Somali, Oromo, Spanish, Amharic, and Swahili. Current students speak Somali, Spanish, Oromo, Amharic, Vietnamese, Lao, French, Hmong, Nepalese, and many other languages.
 
Staff
We have ten teachers, a counselor, a social worker, and a media specialist. We have four bilingual associate educators. We also have a TAPP program for young mothers and their children.

On Wednesday, January 18, eight talented Wellstone Students stood in front of their assembled classmates and teachers and recited poems from memory.   They did a spectacular job and the poems brought forth a range of emotion and ideas.  From these eight, two will advance to the next round to recite poems and compete against students from around the state.  Congratulations to second place winner Akil Osman and First Place Winner Rozaura Cendejas.  Also, Egigayu Ashagre took third place in the contest. 
Renuka and Shara
Three Wellstone Students Participated in the YMCA Model Assembly at the State Capitol!

Congratulations to Renuka Humagai, Shara Motey, and Clarisse Adjo Glissou for their participation in the YMCA Model Assembly at the State Capitol.  They learned the inner workings of how MN state government works, sitting right in the seats of our State Senators and Representatives.  They did an excellent job of representing our school at the State Capitol!!!!!!
